We returned to the Rock Bowl for our final two opponents Cornell and Luther and bested both to finish the season with a 5-5 record.
Against Cornell, both sides of the ball turned in dominant performances. The Defense held the Rams to less fewer to four yards per play and forced five turnovers. The Offense took advantage, scoring six times in seven trips to the Red Zone. Four different players scored touchdowns in the 37-12 win. Game Report Here
We started fast in our final game. The defense forced a 3-and-out on Luther’s first possession and the offense picked up the momentum with an 80 yard TD pass from Vaughn Gesing to Walt Labuz on their first play from scrimmage. One of Tommy Jahnke’s two interceptions set up our second score by Matt Hillard to extend the lead at the end of the first quarter. Luther edged the score to 14-10 at the start of the second half, but Ryan Baez’s 40 yard run set up Labuz’s second TD catch to pull away. The defense held tight the rest of the way, and the offense held the ball for almost eleven minutes in the 4th quarter to seal the 24-10 victory and honor our nineteen departing seniors in their last game. We played better football against Coe than we the previous week at Central, but in the end we fell 34-6. The #16 Kohawks boast the top offense in the conference. The defense had a few busts that led to long Coe touchdowns, and while the offense moved the ball more efficiently, they had trouble finishing drives in the endzone. Game report HERE.
We return home this week for the first of two home games to finish the season. Kickoff vs. Cornell at 12pm in the Rock Bowl.

After our bye week, we travelled to Pella and perennial powerhouse Central College. Our defense played as well as any defense Central has seen all year, but couldn’t overcome three interceptions from our offense that gave the Dutch short fields. The offense also suffered through 11 sacks and struggled to run the ball. Game report HERE.
Our improved defense faces it’s stiffest test this weekend when we travel to Cedar Rapids to face Coe’s top-ranked offense.
